  • Pingtung fishing vessel returns, CGA probes disappearance

    The "Hung Hsing Yu" fishing vessel returns safely to Yanpu Fishing Port in Pingtung after being detained by the CGA at Singda Harbor Coast Guard Base, Kaohsiung, with no evidence of wrongdoing found. The ship had been missing for five days, sparking an investigation into its disappearance and lack of communication, attributed to a generator failure. The captain and two Indonesian crew members are safe.

  • Iconic yellow ducks return Kaohsiung after a decade

    The Kaohsiung City Government has announced the return of the beloved yellow rubber ducks to the southern Taiwan port city after a decade away. The "2024 Kaohsiung Wonderland Winter Fair" will take place at Kaohsiung Port Pier 17 from Jan. 27 to Feb. 25. The fair will feature two rubber ducks and various attractions, including inflatable installations, interactive art displays, circus acts, and children’s theater performances. The yellow rubber duck first toured Taiwan in 2013 and attracted almost 3.9 million tourists to visit Kaohsiung.

  • Taiwan’s navy extends search for missing servicemen

    Taiwan’s R.O.C. Naval Fleet Command continues its search for three missing servicemen who fell overboard from the Hai Hu Submarine on December 21. Despite the 72-hour rescue window passing, the Navy has ordered an additional three-day search. The families of the missing servicemen will be transported to the accident spot on December 27. The wife of one of the missing crew members has made an emotional plea for assistance in the search. Families have suggested moving the search south based on sea current directions. President Tsai Ing-wen visited the recovered crew and comforted the families, vowing to continue the search. The search and rescue effort involves approximately 900 personnel, 80 aircraft, 76 ships, and 319 vehicles, covering an operational area from south of Kaohsiung Port to Hengchun and along the coast of Xiaoliuqiu.

  • New police boat launched to boost Kaohsiung Harbor security

    The Kaohsiung Harbor Police Department held a blessing ceremony for its new police boat, the "Kao P65," to enhance maritime security at Kaohsiung Harbor. The NT$5.52 million vessel was designed to patrol harbor waters more effectively and deter criminal activities. Equipped with two 250-horsepower engines, a four-in-one GPS navigation system, and European inverter air conditioners, the Kao P65 boasts a fresh and optimized interior design and can reach a top speed of 42 knots. The department’s General Commander, Liang Tung-shan, emphasized the need for increased security with the opening of the Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal and the operation of nearly 4,000 hazardous material ship voyages through the port area this year. To meet the growing demand for law enforcement services, the department aims to replace older police vessels annually.

  • DUI pilot crashed container ship into Kaohsiung Harbor pier

    A Cyprus-flagged container ship, the Hyundai Tokyo, crashed into Pier 77 at Kaohsiung Harbor at a high speed and a 90-degree angle on Monday (March 20).
